Today’s question comes from someone who calls himself Hezekiah Ahaz

“Why would [an evil spirit] write a book like the bible?”

Well, depending on circumstances, there are several possibilities.  Now, most non-christians will say that the bible is the work of people.  And that is certainly a possibility.  But I do not rule out the possibility that spiritual beings exist.  Hezekiah assumes that an evil spirit wrote the bible (or a book like it) and wants to know shy that might be.  I shall give some possibilities.

One possibility is to create discord and strife among us humans.  The bible has certainly done that.  History is litterred with religious wars.  An evil spirit who wants nothing more than to see an increase in human sufferring would have a motive to write many variations similar to the bible (but slightly different) to stir up wars.

A second possibility is that the evil spirit wants to get people to turn to one of its representatives as “lord and savior.”  If people enter the spirit world as free spirits unless they voluntarilly make themselves bound, an evil spirit would have an incentive to want them bound to itself.  From what I’ve seen, those bound to christianity act as though they under the control of an evil spirit.

A third possibility is if there is a type of judgement based on the overall character of our actions.  People who consider themselves “saved” are less incoined to work to become better people.  Most people try to improve themselves so they become better people.  But people completely beholden to the bible do not.

Those are the possibilities that I can think of at the moment.  There may be others.  Does anyone else care to help Hezekiah with some alternative possibilities?

  1. Evil is usually classified as attention whores… they love to have all eyes on them, perfect example in the last hundred years is Hitler… true evil needs support to perform their deeds, and that support usually starts with the desire to have people pay attention to them… A good spirit would not need the attention because like any truly good person, they don’t want the attention on them but rather the cause that they are fighting for… I listened to a John Piper sermon related to Mandated Worship as recommended by a post over on my blog that I wrote… and it basically stated that the Christian god is an infantile self absorbed creature that cannot be happy unless we lavish it with our attention (mandated worship) and only if we do that will he/she/it share that feeling of joy with us… sounds to me like the Christian god needs a psyche eval and some prozac.

Yea you can link back to where you took my question from and then explain why you distorted it without permission and deliberately omitted the context.

  3. Actually he’s doing more than is truly required just by giving you attribution, you have no copy right statements on your blog and this falls under the proper usage related to Fair Use, he is obviously using it for response to the question as well as placing it up for review for criticism and comments from others. Not to mention that it does not fall under the “non-fair use” guidelines provided here:

Here’s the most important part of it that says you’re off base Hezekiah:

The 1961 Report of the Register of Copyrights on the General Revision of the U.S. Copyright Law cites examples of activities that courts have regarded as fair use: “quotation of excerpts in a review or criticism for purposes of illustration or comment; quotation of short passages in a scholarly or technical work, for illustration or clarification of the author’s observations; use in a parody of some of the content of the work parodied; summary of an address or article, with brief quotations, in a news report; reproduction by a library of a portion of a work to replace part of a damaged copy; reproduction by a teacher or student of a small part of a work to illustrate a lesson; reproduction of a work in legislative or judicial proceedings or reports; incidental and fortuitous reproduction, in a newsreel or broadcast, of a work located in the scene of an event being reported.”

So stop getting bent out of shape about something you know hardly anything about. If you would actually do a little leg work you would understand that your comment is so off in left field you’re in the parking lot.

So I say again Hezekiah, stop being lazy and grow up.

  4. So either you’re a liar, or willfully ignorant…

Lair = you say you don’t care but you really do

willfully ignorant = you really don’t care and made your previous claim happily without information.

Either way you’re response is a childish response related to being proven wrong… But wait that’s right, you’re above the law and deserve to have everything your way…

Sorry pv, I think this all came about because I reposted this post over on my blog. Now your blog is infected with ignorant responses.

There is an easy way to get him to go away… just keep asking him to describe his god.

  5. Derik,

Ignorant or proving wrong about what?

When did I dispute anything you brought up?

Any honest person would link back so that all could see the context.

  6. Hezekiah… just wow… I love when you play ignorant of a subject matter when it is staring you in the face…

You’re really starting to bore me though… it’s like a 2 year old asking “why?”

  7. What’s in my face?

That my question was distorted and ripped out of its context.

  8. Hezekiah:

“Yea you can link back to where you took my question from …”
Well, I could if I could remember exactly where in your blog it was. I remembered you posed the question as a comment in one of your myriad posts, when I thought it would be a good idea to answer it. But I didn’t have a year or two to locate where you put it again. If you have a link, feel free to supply it.
“and then explain why you distorted it without permission and deliberately omitted the context.”
I do not believe I distorted it, though I was recalling it from memory. And if you think you have relevant context, feel free to provide it.
Sorry to be so late getting back to you, but my internet connection went down.

  9. Pv,

Thy sins be forgiven thee. Take up thy bed and go thy way- Christ

    Ok, now the question was:

Why would Satan write a book like the bible.

In response to what you said, Satan must be a clown then that he would tell people not to go to hell but send himself to hell.

  10. Ok so Hezekiah, here’s the answer:

“Why would [an evil spirit] write a book like the bible.”

    Wait… that’s a statement… so let’s modify it a little

“Why would [an evil spirit] write a book like the bible?”

see that’s a question… and the answers are above.

Do you dispute the fact that you consider satan an evil spirit? <- new question
